I'm just guessing that it might be to wide a tire.

I have seen tires on too wide a wheel on jeeps and trucks but never the other way around.

Then again I could be wrong.

I know your position they want an arm and leg for Z wheels and tires and the set is even more outrageous.

How did the 9.50 look on that wheel? If it was ballooned, you might run into problems with a 10.50. If the sidewalls were mostly straight from wheel to tread, you should be OK.
    It's only adding a 1/2" per side.

The only thing I see that might be a problem with the 10.5 tire is where the wheel pumps are on the Toro's. You might be able to get by with it. Get your tire mounted and put in on your mower finally the mower is up in the air turn the wheel around so you can see the inside of the tire so see if it is going to rub!
