We use\have multiple MSA Solaris Multigas Detectors that we use on the fire department for our tech rescue teams and just basic everyday calls. Had some problems with the O2 sensor at first, but there all fixed right now. Our all have sensors for O2, H2S, CO and combustible gas.

Proper training, records, and calibration is the part that is the PITA for all of them.

As for all confined space work, by law (at least in Illinois), you have to have a stand-by team (2-in\2out, plus your rescue team) available at the site, plus have a contract or MOU for additional response, plus an IAP,site plan, and permit for every entry.... Check out 23 CFR 1910.146 for more information.

Confined space work is not something to mess around or take lightly. 60-80% of the fatalities in confined spaces are would-be rescuers...
