Started thinking the other day and was curious how many LCO's have created million dollar+ businesses and if so, how many bringing home over a million a year? For those of you doing it, what services are you all offering, how long have you been in business, and what's your secret or better yet, tip/advice to get there? ...would be interested to know, thanks

This subject has been addressed many times hear, you are going to get a variety of responses and claims and arguments. Over a million a year doesen't really mean anything. Hundreds of full service landscape and property maintenance company's show well over a million a year. What means something is the % left after all expenses are met for a given time period lets say the year. Another way to look at it is lots of outfits showing less than a mill a year can be doing better than outfits showing farmore. Reduce debt.,Diversifiy, save,

I have seen plenty of million dollar companies. I have worked for a few of them. Some of them were great companies. Others were a joke and I don't think they actually made money.

I worked for one company ( Member on this Site ) who was worth close to 1.5 million in assets.

Profit wise, I doubt they made a million a year though, lots of overhead when you get that big.

To net 1 million a year in the lawn business would entail a headache I dont think anyone one on here is willing to take. A business that size would have to gross a solid 7 million minimum. Thats a lot of grass.

To gross a million would be a bear. You would need a good 25 plus employees.

As a solo guy I can make more money with cars than I can grass. Ive done double in half the time crushing cars as I make cutting grass.

Not true, I've seen a million dollar + mow/snow removal/fert/herbicide service gross with 4 people. I wish I had permission to give out his user name on here.

Two of us used to do 30 residentials, and 3, 100 unit condos in one day.

Four is pushing it but I don't disagree. I was going to say eight could gross a million in labor cost not including material.

The question should be revised to:
Are there any LCO's who are worth a million? or
Are there any LCO's who make a million a year? or
Are there any LCO's who gross over a million a year?

Wow I just read my own thread and Dont exactly know what I was thinkin. I put some info in the wrong spot. I was going to say a million net business would take 25 people.

I agree on a well set up route with good accounts 5 or 6 guys could gross a million.

$5.6 mil last year this year around $7.3 mil

Grass, irrigation Fert and pest, Landscape Lighting, Hardscapes.

Next year we will be adding on large ponds and landscape development installs for complete subdivisions.

We are also possibly thinking of starting a Mower Dealership in late 2009 early 2010
