I bought a used F-150. I was wondering what gear is in the rear end of it. The original owner had no clue. Any way to find out what gear is in it? I guess I could call the Ford dealer and have them use the vin #, but I was looking for a way I can just check otherwise.

Your dealership should be able to tell you from the vin. or the sticker on the door that has the paint and trim codes on it.

You can also check the tag that should be on the rearend.

It will have the ratio as either:

    308
    355
3L55 (L meaning limited slip, where applicable)
    373
    3L73
    410
    4L10

Pull the cover off and count the teeth on the ring gear and the teeth on the pinion gear. Divide the ring count by the pinion count, that will give you your ratio. Besides, the rear end lube probably needs to be changed anyways, so you'll kill two birds with one stone. :waving:
