I will be upgrading to commercial equipment this spring (mainly handhelds for now) and i was wondering about maintenance. I have heard some guys only use stihl oil and high octane gasoline. I was wondering if this is necessary as opposed to just buying two stroke oil from wal-mart. Would it help the equipment last longer? What are the reasons for doing this? Also I have heard of many people using the E3 spark plugs. Would this combination affect performance enough to use them? It is fairly inexpensive either way but i was just wondering if there is any major performance difference as i would like to keep my new equipment going as long as i can.

The cost isn't usually too bad to stick with the manufacture brand of oil. I would go with that if possible, as for the plugs, iv had them I'm my truck and the seem to be alright. They are really supposed to shine in the small engines. Might be worth a shot!

Stihl Ultra oil, 89+ octane, Properly gapped plugs.

    I have no experience/preference with E3's.

Oil is not going to make much difference in the total cost, I'll go with synthetics like Ultra or Amsoil.

Although I heard good comments on WalMart oil.

89 Octane; Walmart oil; NGK plugs.

Change plugs & clean filters often.

I used to use Shindaiwa oil but Walmart is more convienient and a liitle cheaper. Don't notice any difference in perfomance.

if you do anything try Amsoil 2 cycle oil mixed 100 - 1 your get more RPMs. E3 plugs not that much better at all.
