For years I've used the hs45 which is a good machine, wondering if anyone has expereince with the hs81 r,t,t30? Are they worth the extra money? Thanks.

I have the HS 80 which was the previous model. With the 30" bar it gets heavy but will cut just about anything you put it against.

Hmm I though maybe it was for finer things, but I geuss its the opposite. I know my HS45 can go through stuff alomst 3/4" thick if needed. I'm interested in a finer cutting machine for boxwoods and shrubs with small leaves. I find that the HS45 often skips over them and you have to go over several times until it gets them all, but other than that its a great all purpose trimmer.

Sharpen your blades. It might help. Make sure there is no gap between your blades as they cross as well.

there are dif teeth for both models, and we have both models. the 81 has the smaller teeth. i do know the 80 had the option, but we got the larger teeth

Mine has the larger teeth but does a good job of fine trimming. I would love to she how the fine teeth do.

One problem I had with my 45 was that the blade would easily bend and then didn't cut well at all.

the finer blades are better overall, but you are limited in branch dia
