Anyones daily driver a flatbed?????

    I currently run two flatbeds. Both F350 DRW crew cabs with winches on both trucks mounted recessed on replacement grill guards. One bed is CM RD and the other is JLM. The CM is pictured. The JLM is heavier and I like the toolbox setup better but the CM looks better, is more streamlined, and is powder coated.
    I installed a 40 gallon black, aluminum transfer tank and a portable air compressor. I have a 24" toolbox and a 30". My JLM has two 30" boxes and DO I MISS THEM! I am trying to figure out how to close the space between the driver's side toolbox and cab because only a 24" box would fit there with the fuel fill. You can't go wrong with a flatbed but make sure you get plenty of storage. You will fill it up fast. I weighed my '05 F350 with the JLM. It weighed 10,300 with air compressor, tools, and fuel tank. I suspect my '08 will be a little lighter if my numbers are correct but I have to get it weighed to verify. My truck stock weighed 8,900 lbs on the scale.

    Hauling attachments without having to bring my trailer along saves time and fuel. The initial investment of a flatbed is steep but you will make up for it in productivity. I'd go for it.

    I may be wrong, but that bed for sale looks like it is for a single tire truck. I have the same bed on my F350 drw but the front corners are mitered. I payed $3300 for mine last year. I love the bed, it's the best thing I have done to the truck. I think I will put one on my F250 this year.

    The insurance company may charge you more for a flat bed. I don't know the reasoning but that's how it is in Texas. I know there were some guys that were getting more USDOT hassle due to having a flatbed on cumminsforum.com as well. There were things you could get away with if you had a bed that a dedicated flat bed truck could not.

    Flat beds look sweet and are super useful. You can put some wooden stake sides on and that will keep things from sliding off. I wonder if you can get better mileage on trips too.

    Well double checked and tht bed is for a srw. Im still liking the flatbed idea or a low profile service body.

    Call J&I manufacturing in Madill, Ok. They will give you a quote for a flatbed, mounted, on your specific model truck. They have them in stock from a basic style, to a fancy style like the one in the photo. Their mounting service includes hooking up wiring and fuel fill lines.
    You make an appointment, remove the bed currently on your truck yourself, show up at appointment time, they set it on and do all hookups, and you are out of there in 3 or 4 hours. I took one in at 8:00AM, and was out before lunch.
    I think you will be surprised at how reasonable their prices are. Plus, they make really good beds. Check out their website.
