I am just starting my business full time and I want to gain some commercial accounts. How do you go about asking them for their business? What would you wear/say to get them intrested in you over the person that is doing it now?

    It depends ....

Allot of commercial accounts are handled by property management companies. In that case you need to phone and talk to whoever is in charge of the account your interested in and ask to be put on the list of contracts to bid when it comes up for tender.

If it is handled "in house" then I will go to the front desk and ask who is in charge of exteriour landscape maintenance. More times then not you won't get to speak to the person in charge so I then leave a information letter with one of my business cards. I will then ask for either a business card of the person in charge or a name and number ...give it a day and call him/her. These type of "cold calls" are not easy ... try not to get discouraged. It has worked for me many times.

As far as how to dress ... I wear a company shirt and windbreaker and clean jeans. I also try to make sure the company truck is clean.
