Are manufacture specs exagerated?

Soon I will be out and about giving estimates for commercial clients. But the problem lies in...I am not sure how long it will take to do the job.
I have 2 - John Deere Quik Tracs, both 48 inches. JD says they are in the area of 6 acres per hour.

Is this realistic? or is that perfect world stats?

Are you sure you gave the right number of 6 acres per hour? I did the math and there's no way that's possible. The Quik-Traks only go 8.5 mph. To accomplish 6 acres per hour with a 48" deck they would have to go over 12 at 100% efficiency, meaning no turns and not overlapping at all on the previous cut.

If you were to travel full ground speed, you would only be able to cut 3.4 acres per hour at 80% efficiency, which is still high.

    lawntec-

I am looking at getting a JD quiktrak- how do you like yours? Would you buy them again? Why the 48" and not the 54" with the bigger motor?

I think they all do, except Exmark, they only rate their equipment at 80% which is a more realistic pace.
