They look nicer.. I've heard on here that the shaft "doesn't get scored" as badly..
If the people want the best top of the line install product sure it's necessary..

Yes, as mentioned, less scoring. I've used SS for years and would not spec anything else. It's been said that SS risers deter vandalism on public areas, but I take that with a grain of salt.
