I am in the market for another skidsteer and am looking at the following machines:

    1998 Case 1840 w/1060 hours for $11,000.00

1985 Bobcat 743 w/ 4k on the meter but rental place says it only has 2k on it because timer kept running a while back. $5500.00

Both of these machine are from a rental agency and are in good condition. They are in good working order. The bobcat would be an easy buy but what do you think?? I want a machine that will be around for a long time with minimal cost for repairs. Could you guys give me some advice on what machine would be my best bet?

    Thanks,
    Josh

The 1840 may be just a tad high. There should be some room in that price to move. I have had 6 1840's over the years. Absolutely solid machines. Great power for their size. I would not consider a 1985 skid steer of any brand at any price. The technology has jumped big time since the mideighties. The old saying you get what you pay for certainly applies. The 1840/45 hold their value well.
