Have this several places in my own yard, about four to six years old depending on location.

All locations about five to seven feet tall, but only full and green on the top half. Bottom is just nothing but air. Looks very heathy in all respects.

Is this normal? Do I need to cut back? Have never trimmed it. I'm zone 3.5 light soil.
    Any insight appreciated.
