On 9/14/2007 our great state passed a new law which will more than likely effect you. Until now, the owners of a Corporation or LLC were able to make themselves exempt from paying worker's comp on their own salary. Of course, we still had to pay to cover employees, but were able to exempt ourselves. This new law only effects the construction trades, and reeks of outside influence.

For those sole proprietors out there, be warned - this will become an issue for you next year.

The insurance industry did not push this, and is in fact opposed to the change.

This is going to mean thousands more per year for worker's comp coverage. With the already soft economy that we are facing, many of us are already struggling to make ends meet. This is going to be the demise of many small businesses in the state.

I urge all of you to contact your state Reps, congress people, senators, Gov. Lynch, media outlets and any fellow contractors and see if we can get this mistake of a law repealed.

I Agree. However, there is strengh in numbers, if enough people get organize an complain, it could be repealed.

Idiot politicians. This is something that we definitely don't want spread to other states.
