B&S crank/cam timing marks

    I am reassembling a 14.5 single cyl. ohc block and found the timing marks on the cam/crank but they are both single dots and they are both on the "pins" of the gears,so one must be either right or left of the other as opposed to one dot being on a pin and the other on a "valley"which would make more sense.Does anyone have a solution?

    As long as the dots meet at the same time it will be close enough the timming is not that critical. I thought the same when I rebuilt a 10hp b/s over the winter and the engine is still running fine. Besure to check your shaft end play the rebuild manul will tell you what the end play should be. If you need a workshop cd manual you can fined them on Ebay cheep.
