I have a new 2003 exmark lazer hp
At 7:00 AM when I go to start it with the choke on
it will start and then run for 15 seconds
    then backfire and die.
Then I will restart it without choke and it will run fine.
    Is this common ?
Is 15 seconds too long to leave the choke on ?
    Thanks for any help.

From the manual of my Lazer HP 25hp.

    CH 18-25 Engines only:
For a cold engine-Gradually return the choke control to the "off" position after the engine starts and warms up.

This works for me....Once the engine starts I start working my choke down to maintain a smooth run. If you leave choke full to long it will die out...If you push the choke in to quick it will die out.....Work it down to the way the motor needs it until warm.

    WOW!

I checked your profile and you cant even use age as an excuse!

Choke operation and what it actually does is something I learned from my Father at something like 7 years old. I guess its taken you 30 years longer than me.

    Have Fun! :D

I guess your father forgot to teach you a little thing about manners:eek: . Try shutting the choke off right after the engine starts.

25 hp kohler---shut choke off immediately, or begin to shut off immediately.
