That depends... we use tumbled almost entirely and when we do, that tells me that all the soldier cuts need to be chiseled to give it the same look. Regular pavers we just cut and place. More labour and a nicer finish = higher price.

More labor = more labor. Still has nothing to do with marking up matl

More "labour" = more production time.

More production time = more labor.

More labor = more money factored in for labor.

I am marking up the material. It's easy money. 99% of homeowners don't know or care what the cost of the materials are or what the labor is. We just give them one BIG number and say here is your patio.

All my proposals are ONE number. Nothing is broken down, other than the draw schedule.

And I'd bet if Drake and I priced the same job, his proposal with his BIG mark up factored in will be less than my proposal with NO mark up factored in.

A few years ago we once did a "mock" job costing on this forum. I created a patio design, I provided the square footages and the linear footages, and the members here private messaged me their prices. A fun way to see how others priced work and what their numbers came out to be.

I didn't see that one but my bid would have been $8400.

I would be curious how my pricing is compared to a few guys on here.

Do any of you guys who mark up materials ever worry the customer has or will research the prices. I really only mark up anything that I have to go out of my way to pick up.
