ISA has a certification exam, if you're interested in that.

An arborist is just a person with the understandings of how trees and their urban environments interact, there is no requirement for a certification or formal training to call yourself an arborist.

I passed the ISA CA exam 8 years ago, I let it lapse at the first renewal.

I would suggest getting the ISA Cert Arborist study guide, that will give you a plethora of general information to give you a good foundation. They have lots other books to help you along your way.

    Yep, no problem.

There are forums related to tree work, such as www.masterblasterhome.com and www.treebuzz.com . I'm a member on both.

BTW, I'm ~two hours west of you in Columbus. My climber lives in Millport.

If there is a college program, see about taking some classes. No need for a degree, really.

The ISA book has a lot of stuff, but if someone just reads and memorizes it, that's really not much of an education. It really takes time, plenty of reading, experience and practice. And some coaching too.
