I have a common area in a subdivision that has metal bed edging. I just took over this property this month and have pointed out several repairs that need to be addressed. One being the irrigation system which I am repairing this weekend and one being the bed edging, it is rusted and has sharp edges everywhere. I have been asked to give a price for the removal of the edging. I just don't know what to charge for this, or how to remove it. I would think that a flat shovel right against the edging with a back and forth movement will loosen the dirt and then vise grips or bolt cutters to pull it out. Is there an easier way or a tool that is used for this? Do I just charge per man hour or by the foot? All replies appreciated.

If it were me it would be per man hour. Try getting a little of the stuff up first so you have a idea of the job ahead of you. It may take longer than you think.
