We have purchased approximately 2.5 acres of hillside land (10% grade) for building a house. 30 years ago the land was pasture but since then it has been overgrown by trees (spruce, fir, maple, birch, apple). A significant portion will need to be cleared for the house and to provide the necessary view of the surrounding countryside.

    Our questions:
1.what is the best method for clearing and preparing the lot for lawn?
2.after the lot has been cleared of most trees and large stumps, what sort of equipment should we be requesting be used for soil preparation, in particular breakup and removal of remaining tree roots/ rocks?
    3. what precautions should we be using to prevent erosion during the conversion to lawn?

Any other advice or pitfalls to avoid would be appreciated. Thanks.
