The 7.3 Powerstroke does benefit from synthetic oil if you want to use it. One of the mechanics I know uses nothing but synthetic in his 7.3 he says the truck runs the best. He hasn't had any injector problems.

To get the most benefit from Synthetic you need to suck the HPOP reservior dry. Then you fill it with synthetic then fill the rest of the engine.

I'am running Delo 400 5w-40 in my 6.0 but I use Delo 15w-40 in other vehicals I like Chevron Delo 400 it is very common in this area.

A 5 gallon pail of Delo 15w-40 is roughly 75 dollars Canadian a 5 gallon pail of 5w-40 is 133 dollars. You might aswell buy a 5 gallon pail it is cheaper than 4 litre jugs. You will need approx 15 litres.

While your under the hood might aswell do the fuel filter. Under the truck change out the oil in the 6spd it sees some abuse.

On my 06 F-450 I bought I changed the engine/transmission oil and all the filters sure glad I did. The engine oil was disgusting so was the transmission fluid.

Changing the filters and oil is cheap insurance.

I have a 7.3 and use Mobil 1 5w-40. Especially in winter. Try this experiment: buy a quart of regular rotella 15w-40 and any FULL synthetic (not a blend) 5w-40. Put them in the freezer overnight. Next morning, pour them out. That's why I use a full synthetic.

Edit: It does cost more. I change my own oil and last time it cost me $130 for 15 quarts of oil, oil filter, and fuel filter.

Thanks for the input. I've heard Rotella T 15w 40 from a lot of guys now. Thanks everyone else, but I think I'll give that a shot this time.

Make sure you pump out the HPOP reservior even if your going to use dino oil that oil never drains back to the oil pan. It does turn black and it hurts your injectors.
