I have about 3,000 ft of mulched/natural area that I'd like to convert to lawn at my own home this fall. It has a very thin layer (like one piece per inch) of old hardwood mulch on it, is on a modest slope, and is somewhat roughly graded in some areas so it really just needs smoothing out as well.

I of course need to rake the thin layer off and till up the soil before seeding. The soil there is a mix of eroded clay and black soil. What is a good setup to rent to get the mulch off and prepare the soil? I am not going to hand rake it! Toro Dingos with cultivators? No skid steer experience here.

Can the old mulch just be tilled in or am I looking at mushroom city in the future?
