I've been in the business for 9 yrs and my guys are reliable and do great work, but are real rough with the equipment. I have a full time job in addition to the lawn business, so not being present has led to premature equipment wear.

I've switched from Echo to Stihl fs70 2 cycle 2 years ago and am very pleased with the performance. However, I am considering switching to a different Stihl line trimmer and want to know how much additional maintenance and durability to expect from a rx100 or 4 mix engine.

I want to up the engine displacement to 31cc (100RX or larger) but am afraid to switch to the 4 mix. My guys want me to get the 250 w 40cc engine, but I don't think it's necessary for 16/18 residential lawns cut per day. I would only consider the 250 for durability.

I am looking for reliability with low maintenance and high durability.

    Your insight is greatly appreciated.

we have been using the Stihl FS90Rs for along time and love them
every winter we service them ourselves and this year we needed to change the throttle cables that were fraying and one centrifical clutch.

We run 90's and 100's The 90's can take different heads, the 100 are much lighter and make a difference on those really long days!

I know that a 250 is WAY to heavy to work with all day. That machine is for serious vegetation not maintenance. You want the best power to weight ratio. Look at stihl 100 and 110. The added weight may not always justify the little extra power you get from the next model up.

The 250 is the way to go. It is not to heavy to use all day, you get used to it.

there is virtually no maintenance to the stihl units , if u use the 250s you ll be able to cut a tree down, not always helpful aroud you clients shrubs etc. they are heavy. :weightlifter:
