I have a lady who wants me to remove a small tree (@ 6' tall, 3" diameter) to make way for an aggregate walk. I was thinking that I need to pull it to clear the ground as much as possible for the coming walkway. Any help on the best way to go about this would be much appreciated.

if you are not going to transplant it i would just cut it down and dig up the root ball

Depending on what type of tree it is, I'd cut it high and then pull it out with a chain and your truck.

If you havent got enought muscle to remove a 6' x3''
caliper tree..and you need to use a truck..
You need to be in another business..Hell by the time you had your chain hooked up I would have the tree out!

Not to get into an arguement here, but I've had trees about that size stop my truck DEAD when pulling with a chain.
