A thought just accrued to me, I have this one client that has a tree in front yard, and underneath one of the overhanging branches, this black spot started show up and its gotten bigger the last few weeks, and its killing the grass in about a 6 to 8 inch circle, i look up and found out why, the limb is weeping some sort of sap that is causing the black dead spot, first time i seen this, don't know if this helps but maybe.

Is this a fruit tree? My first thought is Bacterial canker (tree only). The weather conditions are ideal for this host. However, I do not believe this will transfer to fescues.
PLC may have pegged it, slime mold.
