Has anyone had a blade fly off while mowing?

I heard a story once that my grandfather was mowing his backyard and the blade flew right threw his legs. Could just be a story ...

I was just curious though. I am sure there are wild stories out there.

Just because you tighten them, is it not a posibbly that a nut could break or something strange...

Why so quick to be sarcastic?

I had a blade fly off a EFFING MTD. I was starting it up and hear thunk wunk CHANG, and watched the blade skid across the concrete. The spindle housing broke and the blade and bolt just flew off. The damn thing was made of pot metal, and it developed stress cracks from being used. Im just glad the mower wasnt up to speed when it happend. I WILL NEVER USE MTD AGAIN -- EVER. This is just one of the reasons I hate MTD, I think its a good reason.

When I was a kid, I remember a girl from our church had a blade go into her stomach while her dad was mowing their yard. Hurt her pretty bad, but she survived.....can't remember the details, but this was about 40 years ago....
