I wear bates at my full time job (paramedic) and they have lasted 5 years and going strong. I don't have any of the workhogs but I wear cowboy boots daily and anything from ariat is like strapping a pillow on your foot. Maybe personal preference but ariat boots are more comfortable than tennis shoes to me.

Keens need no breaking in whatsoever. I love them.

I don't get anymore or less life out of them than any other boot I've tried.

Belleville 390's. Approved for Special Forces and LCO's. Soak em in the morning - change socks and have dry feet the rest of the day. I have never had their steel toes, but these are the most comfortable boots that 130 can buy. The box these come in is more comfortable than 99.9% of the other boots out there. Rough out so they dry as you work. Try a pair. I get mine from militaryboots.com - order one (thats a one, 1) full size down. There sizing chart is for the gortex boots which are accurate - the non goretex dont have the liner and you need to get one size down. Desert tan. No liner - no padding to soak up water. Combat boots. Vibram Sierra soles are super great in all conditions - expecially pushing a 21 on a damp slope.

I wore the soles out the red wing dealer said I did not oil them enough! went through 3 pairs in 5 months. They said no more as did I. 3 pairs of timberlands or cats a year is way less expensive then the $220.00 for red wings. Inserts help with comfort.

I burn the heels out and get them redone for 35 or if there are a lot of chunks and nail holes they do the whole sole for 80

I had a pair of Redwings last year for a little over a year. They were very waterproof up until the end. I bought a new pair this year and they're going back. Dang things leak and they're only 3 months old.

I will say that I have a pair of Bates Swat/combat boots, side zip for maybe 2 years. I wear them most of the time when I'm not working, for everything from going to the store to hiking all day. They're extremely comfortable and the waterproof lining is still working over a year after the guarantee. I do a lot of outdoor photography and I can stand in small creeks looking for the perfect waterfall shot and my feet are dry.

I also love KEENs. Used to wear just their hiking boots, but found out this year they make a steel-toed mountain boot. Best of both worlds and they seem to last a little longer than previous brands like Columbia.

I have worn pretty much all of them and keep going back to red wing. They are durable and comfortable.
