Brake/Trailer Wiring Problem

My tandem w/ brakes is giving me fits. I drove it up to MI from FL, with no problem. Everything worked great, including lights and brakes. As soon as I got up to MI, things went wrong. Lights quit working, then popped a couple fuses in the truck, then brakes don't work. When I replaced the fuses and hooked up to a different trailer, everything worked fine. Where do I begin to look for the problem and how? Thanks guys.

I would first give a visual inspection for all wiring for shorts.
My gut feeling would be "things got loose" inside the connector.
