Briggs 16hp els carb

    I put a tiny tach on my quick 36 and the rpm's where only 2650 at full throttle...anyone know how to adjust the carb on 16 ELS....I can seem to find any info...thanks

    Post the model and type numbers off the engine so we can see exactly what throttle control assembly you have.

    Behind the throttle control plate is a spring, One end connects to the governor arm on the engine the other connects to a "U" shaped lever on the control assembly. Where the spring connects to the control assembly with the engine off and throttle set at wide open bend that tang to stretch the spring for more RPM's, Then re-start the engine and check RPM's.

    First of all make sure your throttle cable is allowing maximum movement of the arm on the engine. If not, adjust the throttle cable. If that is fine, then do what Restrorob said.

    ok ....cable was good, bent tang and got rpms where i want them...but how do i set the hi and low screws on carb back to baseline....the throttle cable is not working correctly....`I have idle or full rpms....no middle or anything! choke works fine. thanks:cry:
