Briggs problem from yesterday

    yesterday I posted problems with Briggs 14.5 ohv about carb.Restrobob suggested tearing back down recleaning which I just did.Now,before putting carb. back on what is the solenoid on the bottom for and does this maybe have something to do with the problem?With key on should the wire be hot?thanks

    yes 12 battery voltage with key on.
    it's the fuel shut off solenoid.
    you should be able to feel and here it click when you cycle the key on and off
    it won't run if it's defective

    Along with what khouse explained, The fuel shut-off solenoid will not cause the flooding problem you are having. Your problem is in the area as posted yesterday.

    I have seen someone on this forum speculate that the function of the fuel shut off solenoid on the carb bowl, is primarily to eliminate backfire through muffler at engine shut down.
