Hi everyone, I had another post about my mower but I have narrowed down the issue to the starter.

I took the engine cover off. There was a part lodged in the flywheel that I removed, looked like it came off the top of the starter. Also teeth on the starter are chewed up. Flywheel spins freely.

What parts do I need to replace to get this engine running again? Does this piece come with new starters, or can I just buy the individual parts to fix this? What do I need? Thanks!

From the posted pic and the parts link Dutch posted it looks like someone has replaced the original starter with a older roll pin style starter.

You will need part # 490421 "drive assembly" to put that starter back on the engine.

I meant I can move the flywheel by hand.

    I don't see part #490421

I don't think the starter has ever been replaced. This tractor has been in my family since 1991.

Just for the record, The 490421 number superseded to the 696540.

Briggs dealer site was down last night so couldn't get the new number, But the old number would have yielded the proper part......

Thanks guys picked up part 696540 today from a local dealer. Will install it Friday afternoon. With any luck she'll fire right up! She sat for about 10 months. Fuel was drained though
