A month ago my lawn was green. Over the last month it has started turning brown. (see Photos)

We have had a lot of rain and little sunshine over the last month here on Long Island New York. Especially the last 2 weeks, we have had virtually no sun.

The grass and other plants are still getting the sun rays to do photosynthesis so lack of direct sunshine is not the problem.

If the browning is over the whole lawn suspect lack of drainage, root rot with too much rain for too long.
Stick a shovel in the ground to dig out a 1 foot hole. Is the soil totally saturated? Look at the roots.. hwo deep do they go and what condition are they in.

Also looks like you may have lots of thatch in the turf too.

Solution: renovate. Areate, power rake, lightly top-dress and seed. Early the better before you get summer heat. In fact now is almost a little too late unless you can water is frequently until new grass is established.

Being that you had lots of rain, could that be red thread?
