    Jim @ TURF magazine here.

Just read a poll about landscape/lawn care contractors' business this year.

I'm not believing the results. You?

business is up so far this year -- 35%

business is down so far this year -- 48%

About the same as last year -- 15%

Jim, going by rough numbers my gross sales are up from last year. Not by much, as I have about the same amount of customers as last season. The increase comes from billable snow plowing of 105" for last season, which increased the gross. Seasons from the past few years have only had 20" -30" of billable plowing. As far as landscape construction/maintenance the gross is about the same.

Its up for me!!! Well this is my first year  But really this year has taken me by surprise, at least until we got into full blown drought conditions.

UP. but I am in year two so I should certainly hope so.

went from solo to 1 guy full time and one guy part time.

My profits are up a little but outfitting a second crew will do that.

Looking to make a killing next year. Of course other expenses will happen. But it is nice to dream.

Gross up about 40% YTD. haven't figured net.

If you are the owner of your own business then it is up to you to make as much money as you can. That means up selling to your current clients, Establishing new relationships with commercial cliental i.e. realtors, model homes or who ever is in your area. Of course if you a solo operation this can be hard. But if you have a crew let them work and you the owner get your butt out there and make some revenue, if business is slow and profits are down itÂ’s the owners fault. There is money to be made. Work on your business not in it.

I'm solo in year 4. Running about 25% over last year at this time.
