Can someone give me some guidelines on buying a route from a fellow mower. Is there a common standard on pricing them?

Depends. If the person is making say $2000. a month he might sell the route for $10,000. It'll take you 5 months to make that back but then it's all profit from there. I personally wouldn't pay $10,000 I'm just making an example. Buying a route is a fast way to get customers but I would first meet them all and see how happy they are with their service. I would also ask them if there is anything they would like to change in there contracts (not including discounts). See if you think you'll keep all customers before buying.
