Testing has been underway on a new selective control in C3 grasses for annual bluegrass, poa triv, quackgrass and yellow nutsedge. Wouldn't that be a great product?

Not named yet, known as MON 44951, and won't be out until 2004 at earliest. Testing on bentgrass so far has gotten 70% reduction of poa triv, without unacceptable phyto to bent. Needs multiple apps, and timing and # of apps is still being worked out.

Purdue also testing TranXit 25 DF on C3 turf. This is a selective P. annua and P. trivialis control used on C4 turf now.

C3 = cool season (northern USA) grasses

C4 = warm season (southern USA) grasses

Easier to say and type C3 or C4, instead of cool season or warm season all the time.

It has to do with the photosynthetic systems employed by each type of grass. Warm season grasses use both C4 and C3 PSN. Cool season grasses only use C3 PSN.
