I am also looking at one I drive one part time for lowes in the evening and love it the truck turns sround great and i have talked with a couple local body companies and they said they have put plows on them and the do very good. I have only driven the Isuzu/chevy with the deisel in it. Hope this helps, A truck like this will be my next work truck.
I have a Mitsi FE HD short w/b, locking rear, custom made 10' dump, a meyers 8' poly plow and a Downeaster 1 1/2 yard electric sander. The traction is not very good because its a short w/b and most of the weight is infront of the wheels. I run chains and it has plenty of push, but I have to be very careful not to hang it up because there is not much traction in reverse. The big downfall is how low the plow frame is from the ground. The push frame will dig into any driveway that has a very steep incline. Also, the truck frame is very stiff and rigid so its hard to plow anything other than flat ground with out digging the plow corner into the ground. Its a nice little work truck. I would go for the 170 HP next time and 4x4.
Gene, where's granville? Where'd you purchase the truck? Any pics? I'd love to see the body. How much do you think the 4wd will help when there's no weight in the back?
I am 20 miles west of Springfield, foothills to the Berkshires. I purchased the truck at Westfield Ford-Mitsi. The body looks just like any platform dump. I had it made with 4" stringers and 3" crossmembers to lower the overall higth. Most standard bodys are made with 6" stringers and 4" crossmembers. 4x4 would make a BIG differance with all the weight being over the front wheels, same as a pickup. I don't have a digital camara. I asked my son-in-lawn to take some but he's been too busy. I also made up my own sides, a 3 peice configureation on each side. The bottom 12" I leave on as standard and have 2 sections that are 24" high that are split in the middle so one guy can remove a section as needed.
Strong...Check over to www.plowsite.com
One of the guys over there uses 2? of them
to plow with I think they have dump boxes
on them.......My buddies vending company
uses them now instead of a big box truck because
a CDL license is not necessary.....geo
I just installed a Blizzard 8611 Power Plow on a 2000 GMC W 4500 cabover. Nice plow and install, we will have to add some spring in the front, but other than that a good combo.
Will have pics shortly.
Blizzard doesn't make an undercarrige for the plow, we had to fab one up.
Plus, Blizzard won't warranty the plow after it was put on the vehicle, but my dealer will.
I have just bought an old isuzu with a 16' flat bed and 3' dove tail with ramp's .
It only made sence to me i dont have employees driving around in the co truck doing personal erands on there off time they take the truck home get in there own.
I like it also because i dont need trailer's shortends up the length.
easier in res area's .
I hope i made the right choice.
plus the cost is about the same as a new truck from GM.
I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Canter FE444. Here it is.
