This will probably seem like a dumb question to a lot of you, but when you're taking the square footage of a yard do you just take the total lot size, or do you subrtract the space that the house and gardens occupy? Everyone talks about a 1/4 acre lot being pretty average, but in my experience once the size of the house/pool/gardens etc is subtracted out, very few lots have a 1/4 acre of grass.

Measure length X width on front, sides and back yard. May take alittle more time. But its more accurate.
