Next year I am going to start small so I can get a good feel for what I am doing. So I want 10-15 customers....can I get by with a spreader and a 4 gal bp sprayer? I want to grow as I get business rather than try to grow into the equipment that I buy. I made this financial mistake with mowing and don't want to do it again!

Depending on the size of the yards you treat, I would say yes you can get by with a BP sprayer.

I was in a similar situation last year and I used two 4-gallon backpacks. I got a 50 gallon skid sprayer this year to help ease the burden of constantly filling the backpacks. When I get to the point of constantly re-filling the skid, I'll purchase a ride on unit and use the 50 gallon tank to fill that.

That will be a couple of years though. I'm just getting my feet wet I guess, still tons to learn. I don't want to go all out marketing the service until I'm more confident in my knowledge.
