Does anyone know the difference between a 226B and a 226B2? Also when did the B2 version come out?? Has anyone used OTT tracks on a 226 and can give me some insight??

Maybe Ron can back me up, but I think the B and BII machines are pretty much the same when it comes to the powerplant and the rest of the machine should be practically the same.

As far as OTT's go, I haven't seen it done. The 226BII has 56 horses, it has enough power to spin them. The only reason I wouldn't recommend tracks is that I don't know if the drivetrain can handle the added weight of the tracks.

I think most of the changes to the B2 is to the cab.

The valving for the pilots is different, more responsive during colder weather, that is actually a simple port in the valving that can be replaced on any older B models.
There's some more changes, but I would have to spend another 2 hours going through the parts manual again, they have all the B2 changes listed there.
I used a 216B2 for an hour last week, I would never consider that machine, a 226 is a better choice, more power, more ROC and more hydraulic flow. But they sure are balanced extremely well.

Interesting....they increased the fuel tank size, up from 15 to 17 gallons.

Thanks for the input guys... Sellingiron.... your charts are again informative and helpful.... looks like I might be pulling the trigger on a 226B and sometime down the road getting a set of OTT tracks for it for use as needed.

Get a hold of your Cat dealer, that port(s) is either in the pilot controls or in the pumps.
