Know there was a thread about the red streaks in the tire tracks of centipede grass after mowing and can not find it. What causes this? Have several of this variety and notice that on a few I am leaving unsightly wheel marks. Just the tips are turning red.

centipied is popular in the south. pretty tough stuff. a stalk kinda grows sideways and then the stems (leaves???) grow up. looks nicer every year if its taken care of. Looks pretty nice when its maintained properly and needs little water or fertilizer so its pretty ideal for huge yards where people cant afford or its not feesible to irrigate

    thats the link i found

Its what I got in my lawn then seed over with panterra rye in the fall so im deep green all year. :)

I have been told to NEVER overseed centipede. Have you done that for a while?

I never heard not to. Never heard to do it either tho lol. I been doing it at home for about 3 years now. We mainly do it (about 5 acres total but only finish mow about 1.5) to attract the deer. A like the deep green it gets. Little bit of brown in it right now due to the rest of the rye dying from the heat. I could be doing the wrong thing but a few customers always request it in winter and it is extra work and $$$ for me to keep it mowed.

Any input from some of the veterans????

Tia thanks for the link. I never heard that before but then again I never really looked. I dethatch mine once a year as I do my customers and never had a problem but will either do nothing this year or fescue. Learn something new everyday!
