I have a 2 y.o. stihl farm boss chainsaw that does not get used a whole lot. It runs pretty good until the saw is held horizontally, like to cut down a tree, and begins to bog down. Any ideas?

What model, 026, 028, 029, theres a number of different models from Stihl with the Farmboss name on them.

If its an 029, I wouldnt fix it, I'd buy an MS260, modify the muffler, keep the .325 chain, go to full chisel, and never look back.

It's junk. I'll take it off your hands for $25.

I've got a ms 180 that does the same thing. How long has the saw been sitting?

I ran some new gas through with Sea-foam cleaner and it quit bogging, but now its at it again. Curious to see what we have...

With the MS 180, I'd rebuild the carb, and see if that helps. ANYTHING below an MS260, that doesnt have the metal crankcase, is a non pro saw, the MS260, 361, 440, 460, 650, 660, and 880 are pro saws, everything else in the lineup is a homeowner machine, trust me. Chainsaws are my life. on non current models, the 024, 034 036, 042, 048, 056, 064, 075 076, 070, 084, 090, and 090 G are pro saws, as are the MS192T, MS200, and the old but rugged 020T.
The aformentioned saws are ALL pro machines, ESPECIALLY the 090.

From time to time I see the fuel filters get caught in the "high" end of the gas tank. See if this is your problem if not I would rebuild the carbuerator.
    good luck!

I looked at it this morning and the model number is MS290. If this is a carb issue is it something that just needs a good cleaning?

I will check the fuel filter as well. I only run the saw maybe a dozen times per year.
