Do I need to charge my customers tax for my services in Missouri? Mowing and trimming, the basics.
NJ just adopted taxes on maintenance service . check with your state.
We have to in NYS. Most of that stuff can be looked up online. Or contact your accountant.
Research the tax laws for Missouri and you will learn whether or not your work is a taxable item. Even if your services are to be taxed, you "collect" the tax money for the state, then send it to the state. You never "charge" a tax, you are only the collector of the money.
Most likely, your state department of revenue has a web site. And, the information is in a document you can download and print.
Just so you know NJ did not just start taxing maintenance they just started taxing landscape installs. Mowing lawns has been subject to sales tax in NJ for well over 20 years.
Before anyone starts in business they should contact their States Dept. of Revenue for their tax laws.
Know before you Mow!
