What kind of fuel mileage do you guys get out of gas chevy dumps? loaded and unloaded? I know it aint gonna be great but I was just wondering cause im thinking about buying one. Or should I spend an extra $5k and buy a ford 7.3 dump? Thanks

My 2500 hd dump Duramax 18MPG stock, just a kn, 14Mpg loaded. 7.3 5MPG loaded 7.5 MPG empty, less power and towing, brakes F-550.

Are you talking about a 7.3 Powerstroke or an old 7.3 IDI diesel? My 7.3 IDI 450 dump gets at best 11 empty, prolly 9ish loaded. My 7.3 Powerstroke, in a 3/4 ton 4x4 extended cab that tips the scales right around 7K with me in it, big weathergaurd toolbox full of crap, shovels, rakes, sledges, stakes, whatever in the bed, has always been between 14 and 18 with no trailer, and 10-12 pulling a 14' dump, weighin in close to 12K. This is mix city/highway mileage. I wouldn't imagine that a 7.3 powerstroke in an F350 with a dump would me much different. If it's a 450 you're lookin at a lot lower gears, so your highway mileage won't be as impressive.

I thought your 550 that you hated so much was a 6.0?

No the f-550 was the 7.3 I drove it under 3k miles, the f-250 was 6.0 I kept it 350 miles, and everyone 6.0 sucked you should have gotten 7.3 so I tryed it because the cost was less than a duramax(boy was I wrong) .

A 1 ton dump really doesn't have any "legal Payload". As for mileage prolly at best 8mpg any gas pot truck isn't going to do very well. If I was buying a 1 ton Chevy it would be 454 power over a 350. My Ford F-450s the 88 with 460 gas used to get 6mpg but the truck used to carry 8000lbs. The 89 7.3 IDI used to get 10mpg carrying 7000lbs the 95 PSD 12mpg and my current 03 6.0 gets 12.5-13mpg.
