Im starting out and i dont know if i should have any kind of signing fee.
I'm guessing you mean a deposit?
I used to require a deposit for mowing, for one cut, but I dropped it because it was more of a hassle than anything else. Now I bill by credit card so they pay in advance, I get the first month's payment at the time of signup.
For work like mulch, they have to put 50% down in advance. Really for any work that requires me to buy materials.
I collect 30% for any job that requires me to buy materials. Other than that I bill after the work is done including mowing.
When i was doing some mowing i would ask for the first month up front. Heck, the phone company, gas company, etc. does it, why not me. Why should i risk not getting paid b/c they went price shopping.
