I'm looking for the "ideal" controller, so feel free to chime in with your suggestions.

    Criteria:
    - Average residential yard.
    - Simple to program & understandable for the homeowner
    - Rain sensor input
    - Remote controllable
    - reliable
    - reasonably priced, say under $150
    - quick wire hookup, clip & go
    - internal transformer
    - modular expansion, base of 4 or 6 stations, expandable up to 12 or so??

Don't need weather sensor, etc. although that would be a great benefit.

One's I've seen don't meet this list, or they're partial. But then I haven't seen them all either, thus the post.

Feel free to add to these basic requirements or flesh them out more and tell me your thoughts on the subject if this hasn't been beat to death in some other post.

    Thanks :usflag:

Reasonably priced and internal transformer don't go together.

Could be, I've used K-Rain before, I know it's not the most popular brand, and it'll never make the best seller list, but, it does have an internal transformer.

9 station around $90 (my cost)

Should add to the list of criteria the following:
    - MV/pump start capable

But, back to your comment, at what price point is that expected on better known brands?

Hunter Pro C Outdoor Controller has all that stuff for under 160.00 with three modules (12 zones).

Why the internal transformer anyway? Where are they being installed? Outdoors?

Why would you put a controller inside? The sprinklers are all outside.

If the plumbing is in the basement, one has the ability to place all the important pieces in one location. Controller and system shutoff valve.
