I got a 36" encore walk behind hydro. Sweet machine, love it. The only thing is the transmission belt seems to be cracking more than normal. Belt was replaced a couple times last summer.. What could it be from; overheating? belt slip? tensioner to tight? faulty machine?? Has anyone seen this problem with Encore mowers???

As with any brand unit when a new belt is installed it will break-in and stretch, Thus the adjustment should be checked periodically to prevent belt slippage which creates heat in turn causes cracks.

Should there be any play in the at all or should it be really tight? I'm in fear of over tightening the belt causing it to break.. Down-time sucks..

You don't want it banjo string tight, This being such a short belt adjust to where you can push in the center (side away from the idler) about 1/8 to 3/16".

Also make sure the bearings and belt ride surface is in good shape on the idler.
