I have several very large Crape Myrtle's -at least 25 feet tall. The leaves had just started to bloom when we were hit by a late spring freeze in Alabama. All the leaves turned brown and appear to be dead. Will the Crape's recover or do I need to do something; e.g., cut the branches down, etc.?

I spoke with the NC Coop Extension service last night about the same thing. The leaves have nothing to do with the flower buds and although they have wilted from the freeze new growth should come out in a few weeks. The tree should be fine. Hostas that have frozen will look bad this year but won't die.
