For now it is CRI as the CQS protocol is still in development. I would assume that as soon as IES and IALD are finished the development of CQS tat it will quickly become the standard used. Makes perfect sense to me.

Yes it is true CRI has MAJOR short comings as it related to LED as the article states, especially for landscape lighting applications. CRI takes the the average reading of 8 pastel color swatches and gives it a score of how close those pastels look compared to daylight. Much of landscape lighting is in the more saturated colors like dark green, brown and thus CRI is not necessarily a good quality indicator for landscape applications. (Don't get me wrong, it's better than nothing as a poor CRi is usually a very poor LED).
The R9 value (how an LED performs for bright red, which is usually its hardest color to replicate) can give insight-- it measures the performance of LED's 'weakest link".
Perhaps in the future you will see outdoor LEDs binned and picked to perform best in the color categories most important to landscape applications.
I think CQS sounds like a great idea and I am sure that LED, it's measurement and standards are going to continue to advance and improve rapidly.
