Just as quickly as it exploded into a massive wildfire, the Quarry Fire at Fort Carson is out. There are no flames along the fire line at this hour; crews are mopping up hot spots. However, the wind has again whipped-up at the Mountain Post, creating the possibility of fanning the hot spots back to life.
Fort Carson is still pegging the acreage burned at 6,500 acres.
The cause of the fire appears to be an explosion in a rock quarry in a training area on post. The fire has been dubbed the Quarry Fire. Local fire agencies sent every available crew to battle the flames, which blew off of military land into Fountain at one point. Some evacuations were recommended for a time, and a Red Cross Shelter was opened in a church. The flames in Fountain were beaten back before they could reach any homes or businesses.
No injuries have been reported and no structures lost.
No problemo. And I don't think Tony reads here anymore. We're too good for him or something. Making millions selling Dodges.
By the way Mike, did you ask because you're heading this way soon?
If not quite yet Mike, meet us in Tucson on the 21st. We'll be getting out of Rain Bird camp that Saturday, then to Phx for a couple days.
But still come north on your way home.
I read here...and you are too good for me...and I'm not making millions....zillions!
We had another good month last year....hehhehheh. Economic downturn pfft...
The divide fire is also out....my buddy is a firefighter and he was bummed because it was his day off..think they might be bored?
I'm going to start a thread soon......
Good to hear from you. Long time. Hope all is well. Post more often man.
