I have a 52" toro z500 and to get a 3.5" cut I have to set the deck at 4.25". I have followed the directions directly from the manuel and when I have the blades set at 3.5" and try to raise the deck......the damn deck hits the floorboard and won't come all the way up. Am I missing something obvious here??

If it makes you feel any better, I've never run across any rider (just demoed 11 makes) on which the blades were as high (always lower) as shown on the cutting height indicator. The biggest difference I've seen was 1-1/4". Two manufacturers indicated that the higher settings were intended for transport only (another said it was to compensate for overinflated tires!)

I'm getting to the point where I simply use the depth markings as a gauge as to where to set the mower at each lawn a opposed to actually thinking that it's the height I'm getting.

I have to agree, that the manuals a lot of times are not correct
