Dethatching

    I got a customer that doesn't like dead grass in his grass .So can you dethach saint Augustine grass? When should you do it ,and does it make a miss ,How often should you do it? Anything would be helpful

    Dethatching of St. Augustine can be done, however, it makes the biggest mess you have ever seen. Rips runners up all over the place. Best thing to do is rake it out every month or so. Charge him for any extra that you do.

    Get a good quality verticut and slice the St Augustine on 3 inch centers cutting all the way to into the ground. A Verticut will take out less debris and help the plants more than just ripping the crap out o them with an old flail dethatcher..
